Will this Vauxhall be a victor at auction?

“FIVE owners, sixty thousand miles on the clock, tax and MOT, lovely runner’ are not the words you would normally expect Cotswolds auctioneer Philip Allwood to deliver from the rostrum.

But at the next antique and general sale on Friday, August 15, Cirencester-based Moore Allen & Innocent will offer for sale a beautifully-restored 1960 Vauxhall Victor F2.

In its time the Victor was a sensation and a familiar sight on roads in the UK and abroad. With a design inspired by American saloons of the 1950s, it was Britain’s most exported car, with 390,000 units rolling off the production line.

It was capable of 0-60mph in a shade over 28 seconds, had a top speed of 74.4mph and was capable of 31 miles per imperial gallon. It cost £758 – around £12,500 in today’s money.

This Victor – registration 609PPA – has not always been a cherished car. At one point in its history it was stored in a garage on its side. However, major renovation has been undertaken, and an album of photographs charting the restoration accompanies the car, as does original owners’ documentation including manual, handbook and logbook.

Auctioneer Philip Allwood said: “This is a beautifully restored example of a piece of British motoring history. We expect the Victor to achieve between £1,000 and £1,500."
