TV stars bobby dazzlers go under the hammer

TV STAR David Dickinson will be hoping bidders bite at his bobby dazzlers when they go under the hammer at Moore Allen & Innocent in Cirencester.

The Duke will be bringing his popular beat-the-dealer game show Dickinsons Real Deal to the auction house on Friday, July 4.

The auction will be the contestants final chance to find out whether their prized possessions are bobby dazzlers. If the bidders arent impressed, the contestants antiques will be considered cheap as chips, or might go unsold altogether.

The items going to auction have already been valued by an antiques dealer in round one of the game. The vendor has rejected the cash sum offer, preferring instead to take the items to auction in round two. But will the hammer price exceed the amount offered by the dealer? Thats the gamble in Dickinsons Real Deal.

Among the lots going under the hammer is a small collection of old coins, including a couple of Roman or Anglo Saxon coppers in poor condition. In far better condition are four silver coins: an Elizabeth I shilling, circa 1580, a Charles II silver crown from 1662, a George III Bank of England silver five shilling dollar from 1804 and a George III crown from 1820. The collection carries an estimate of 250 to 300.

An original, signed watercolour by John Butler Yeats, Irish artist and father to the more famous Jack Butler Yeats, has been valued at 300 to 500. Featuring an Irish peasant smoking a pipe, the painting is dated 1883.

And an unusual Art Nouveau Minton Secessionist vase produced in 1905, meanwhile, is valued at 100 to 150. The twin-handled pedestal vase features an attractive tube lined decoration.

Auctioneer Philip Allwood, who will be on the rostrum during the show, said: Im delighted that David is returning to Moore Allen & Innocent, having visited us previously with Bargain Hunt and Real Deal. Hes a great personality and his shows have helped bring the world of auctions and antiques to a wide audience.
