SOUVENIRS from one of Swindon Town’s proudest footballing moments will go under the hammer in aid of charity later this month.
Three publications relating to Swindon Town’s historic Football League Cup victory in 1969, when the third division side lifted the trophy after beating the mighty Arsenal 3-1, will be sold by Moore Allen & Innocent on Friday, July 25.
The collection includes a programme from the semi final second leg against Burnley and the official Football League Cup programme, dated Saturday, March 15, 1669.
Meanwhile, a team photo in a souvenir booklet produced some time between Swindon’s semi final victory and the Football League Cup final, entitled Swindon’s Road to Wembley, has been signed by nearly all the players. And – to prove that fashion-conscious WAGS are no new phenomenon – the booklet includes a line-up of the wives and girlfriends too.
The publications are being auctioned commission-free in aid of Cirencester Housing for Young People, and are expected to achieve between £30 and £50.
The Football League Cup lots won’t be the only attraction with a Swindon connection at Moore Allen & Innocent that day. Comedian Julian Clary – whose parents live in the town – will be at the salerooms filming Celebrity Bargain Hunt.
