Hospice to benefit from antiques valuation day

A SPLENDID 16th century manor house will provide the backdrop for a Cotswolds antiques valuation day later this month.

Experts from auctioneers and valuers Moore Allen & Innocent in Cirencester will be helping to raise much-needed funds for Sue Ryder at the charity's Leckhampton Court Hospice.

Auctioneer Philip Allwood, a regular face on TV shows including Bargain Hunt, Flog It and Dickinson's Real Deal, will conduct expert valuations during Antiques at the Court.

Owners will pay £3 per item – or £5 for two items – to have their antiques valued, with all proceeds going to the charity.

And if past experience is anything to go by, there will be some surprises in store. During previous charity valuation days, Philip and his team have discovered a Faberge box, which later sold at auction for £75,000.

“Of course, owners are not obliged to sell their antiques,” said Philip. “Many are just interested to find out the history and value of granny's silver coffee pot, or would like a valuation for insurance purposes.

“We're delighted to be able to support Sue Ryder, which cares for people with cancer and other life-shortening illnesses and offers support for patients, their carers and families. ”

Sue Ryder – Leckhampton Court Hospice is a modern hospice that offers in-patient care, day therapy services and comprehensive family and bereavement support to the people Gloucestershire. It was the first hospice in the county and today it is still the only one that offers in-patient care.

The valuation event will be held between 1pm and 5pm on Sunday, July 24. Other attractions include live music and a barbecue, and the event will be held in a giant marquee, so will take place whatever the weather.
