![]() The first Selected Antique sale of the year was a great success with several star lots. The top price of the sale was £15,400 achieved by a 19th century Siena marble temple of Castor & Pollux which, at 77 cm high, was a larger than usual example of a Grand Tour souvenir. Another Grand Tour model depicting the temple of Vespasian achieved £8,400 (both pictured below). The furniture section also proved to be a success with a Morris & Co. walnut table designed by Philip Webb achieving £14,200 and a George II Irish red walnut tea table making £11,200. Other highlights of the sale included a "castle top" snuff box decorated with a view of Newstead Abbey by renowned silversmith Nathaniel Mills which made £2,000 and a 19th century Chinese needlework wall hanging decorated with a stylised dragon which achieved £3,000 (pictured below). Overall the sale attracted a great deal of interest both in the UK and overseas and this was reflected in the prices realised.
