In the garden, wooden tool storage chests are just a small part of an extensive selection of garden equipment, ornaments and furniture, which will be going under the hammer on Friday, May 13. The storage chests should make £20 to £30 each, while a selection of stone and enamel Belfast sinks should fetch between £30 and £50 each, and bidding for standing ornaments will start at £60 each.
Among the best is a pair of stone lions standing over shields (£100 to £150), and a pair of planters in the classical style (£150-£200).
Moving indoors, a trio a military campaign chests offer interesting and attractive storage solutions for anything from linen in the spare bedroom to toys in the nursery.
Dating from the 19th century, and believed to have been used during the Boer War, the pine chests – one ascribed to a Major Annesley of the Royal Artillery, the remaining pair marked Naper – carry an estimate of £50 to £80 each.
They are part of a selection of vintage luggage being offered for sale during the auction.
But perhaps the most intriguing chest of the sale is a late 19th century coffin maker's tool chest.
The large pine chest contains chisels, screwdrivers, hammers and planes – some as long as a man's arm – and many are stamped with the original owner's name. A bid of £200 to £300 should secure this useable and fascinating lot.
