Summer sunshine brings out the crowds for hot bidding at Norcote salerooms
Despite being a summer sale, traditionally a slow time of year, the crowds came out in force to our sale on the 28th July, possibly the highest number of registered buyers this year, all keen to buy.
As Principal Auctioneer Philip Allwood insists brown furniture is still selling well in the Cotswolds, this last sale reiterating what has gone before. Our cover shot an 18th century oak chest on stand (illustrated below) made £960. The Victorian (brown) side cabinet sold for 3 times estimate at £440 and an Edwardian display cabinet (definitely brown furniture) doubled is estimate in realising £460.
Other lots that sold well included a Deputy Lieutenants dress suit which made £500, a Troika spice pot achieved £140 and a paperweight with a sulphide portrait of St Paul sold to a collector for £130.
We are expecting the crowds for our next antique and general sale on the 18th August as well as ITV will be here with the cameras filming their new antiques related game show “Dickinson’s Real Deal” following on from their filming at Cotswold Leisure Centre on Saturday 29th July. We already have a good selection of lots for this sale with the closing date for entries still a week away (Monday 7th August).
